My laptop was on and logged on to Facebook and it got slammed shut ,now it says that Windows won’t start normal! I have turned it off and took battery out ,and let it sit for about 10 min . then tried it again and still won’t work ! Any ideas?

When you first start up, will it boot into a window’s safe mode? Usually pressing an Fx key like F8 will give you the option to boot in the safe mode. Here are some options: http://www.howtogeek.com/107511/how-to-b… If the laptop has a actual hard drive (not an SSD) a head crash may have happen due to the sudden shock since the computer was running at the time. Only replacing the HD would fix that. A second possibility, if Windows won’t boot, is that memory became dislodged. If you have access to your memory sims (usually under a removable cover) check to see if they are seated properly.

One thing in my bag of tricks is a program called “Spinrite” I’m not a rep for them or make any money by this btw. Go to grc.com And get a copy. You just boot the CD (You may have to change boot order in BIOS so CD starts before anything else) If you hard disk has some read errors this is the most reliable way to get your computer working. This doesn’t fix OS problems like scrambled directories but actual read errors. Always take care of this first. The guy who wrote this program knows hard disks like no one else and if this doesn’t recover unreadable sectors? Nothing else will. Assuming you get it going again (Spinrite has fixed a lot of computers) make a full backup (External drives are cheap) BONUS: Running spinrite once in a while will give you a pretty reliable clue when the drive is starting to flake out. The grc.com site has a lot of free goodies and some fairly advanced security tools. Check out “Shields Up” he is clearly a Star Trek fan.

If you have another computer, you could try running a surface scan on the hard drive, for example if you have a seagate harddrive, you can run sea tools and check for bad sectors, if it finds any it usually gives an option to repair, sea tools can also check other brands but doesn’t fix the bad sectors on them. If your drive has bad sectors I would recommend backing up and replacing as soon as possible.
