I have installed a new SSD into my MacBook Pro mid 2010 and transferred the HDD into an optical bay carrier. I didn’t install the OS on the SSD before installing it since I figured I’ll go into recovery mode and install a new OS after erasing it with disk utility and formatting into OS extended. However, now when I try to install the OS it gives me a Can’t Proceed banner after I press continue. I’m using the HDD with all my files to boot my system now, however I really want to make the SSD a bootable disc without copying all the data from the HDD (500GB) onto it (SSD 250GB). Without involving me taking it out again. I can’t seem to download OS from the app store and place it onto the SSD either. Thank you.

Boot up from your original hard drive. I can’t tell how you have the SSD set up but I assume you must be using a USB to SATA adapter for one of the . Go to Disk utilities from your boot drive and format the SSD setting it up as GUID and Then Mac OS X journaled. Now you should be able to install the system.
