I want to temporarily remove the sleep light/IR sensor from the front of my MacBook Pro 17-in Unibody (early 2011). On first inspection, though, it seems to be stuck onto the metal. Is the light/sensor removable? If so, how should it be don? Update (08/15/2018) Here’s a photo of the dent. You can see it’s centred right where the IR sensor is; also note the bottom panel not quite fitting.
The Sleep light & IR sensor is glued into the case just in front of the battery. If you just need to test something I would just disconnect the connection from the logic board. Apple doesn’t offer it as a spare part so if you’ve damaged it you’ll need a new uppercase assembly.
