my phone did the same thing about a week ago! i still use but it barely. i can only see the screen if i flash a light on it. i was face timing and using snap chat and that must of done it but i had a case on so i couldn’t feel any of the heat.
Your display might need replacement. Cheers.
If is not a screen problem so that must be the circuit of the backlight, must rebuild the circuit.
Sounds like a backlight issue. 9/10 times it will be the display that needs replacing. However if unresolved then it will mean the logic board will need fixing
