I accidentally ordered a ipad2 glass/digitizer and found out the IPad is actually a generation 4. Can I still use it on the 4gen?

No you cannot. Ipad 4 is a 264ppi display and the old Ipad 2 is a 132ppi display. The connectors and density are different.
