What kind of SSD does apple uses for its 2TB fusion drive? I read on your website that the 2TB is composed of 128 SSD and 2TB 7200 rpm drive. Can I upgrade the 128 SSD with a 3rd party nmve m.2 ? Is there an adpater for it?
Do not use the M2 blades in a Mac, They are not reliable. Either go with an Apple original or an OWC. Basically in a fusion drive set up the SSD acts as a cache. Why do you feel you need a larger one? You may be trying to upgrade the wrong drive. What are you trying to accomplish?
I have successfully upgraded my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) with a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO NVME SSD. Please see post below for full details. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ima… Best of luck. Thanks.
The fusion drive is in the pc world a hybrid drive. Conventional hard drive platters with a ssd portion of memory on the controller board. You can’t simply swap out the Chip and attach a nmve m2… Your only option is to purchase a bigger hybrid hard drive..
