I have an old emc 2309 core 2 duo and its running very slow now, can i upgrade into core i5 or i7. Please help?

No, you cannot use the i CPUs. You can take it to a 3.33 GHz Core 2 Duo (E8600). I would max out the RAM and change the old hard drive to an SSD. This really renews the machine and gives it a dramatic speed increase. Even an SSHD really helps this model.
