I have a 13" Macbook white 2.16Ghz Energy Star (mid ‘07) A1181 logic board core 2 duo (I know this cuz it uses the JST 3 wall heat sink). The GMA950 video card became corrupted and now I have to replace the entire logic board (those bastards!!!). I see on Ebay some A1181 logic boards that are selling between $250-$350, and I’d much rather repair the problem than have to buy a new computer for double or triple that. I can definitely replace the logic board myself, but if I can increase the processor speed while I’m at it, I don’t see why not–especially when the price difference between the two logic boards is only $50. I see that the connectors are pretty similar. Do you think this is possible? If so, would it be a clean swap or would I need to replace other parts as well? Thanks in advance!!!

The 2.16 is the highest you can go in your series. Here’s a list of the boards that will work in your machine: http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/MacBook-

Why don’t you attempt to fix the broken logic board first before buying another one. Google how to reflow a gpu. I have done this before and if you already have the logic board out then you might as well try it. All you need is a hot air gun and aluminum wrap foil. I had an imac with the a faulty gpu and some guy on here gave me detailed instructions on how to reflow the graphics chip check out this post: video graphics and boot issues I hope this helps, good luck!!

Put a blob of (lead-free) solder on top of the chip while attempting the reflow. When that melts and you keep the heat up for another 30-60 seconds you can be assured the “spider-legs have also resoldert. The reason for the lead free solder is that it melts at a higher themperature than ordinary solder. If that doesn’t work - well, get yourself a logicboard.
