I have a Late 2009 13” MacBook. I would like to know, is there someway to upgrade CPU, GPU, Battery, and display? The battery on it is horrible! The processor is only a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; and the GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB Would I need to upgrade the logic board to make this better?
Without changing the logic board, expensive and not that productive, your best options are to max out the RAM at 8 GB and drop in a SSD drive. You should see about a 50% perceived speed increase by doing this.
There are a few things you can do too get a bit more performance like maxing out the RAM to 8 GB and replacing your HD with either hybrid SSHD or jumping to a SSD. The one thing you do need to be careful is making sure the drive you go with runs at SATA II (3.0 Gb/s). As an example: Seagate FireCuda SSHDSamsung 860 EVO SSD Both of these drives support SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) make sure whatever drive you get lists it on the spec sheet like these. If it doesn’t its not able to work reliably in your system. The last issue is your battery over time your battery will loose its performance, just like your car battery. Lets see how it looks by installing this app CoconutBattery. You’ll need to post a request for the older version if you have an older OS on your system. Once you have it running take a snapshot of the main window and post it here for us to review Adding images to an existing question So far we’ve talked about what you can improve, sadly your question was more focused on things that you can’t upgrade. The CPU & GPU are not replaceable and the display is likewise not upgradable. Laptops are very different than PC desktops which often have the ability to alter the CPU, GPU board and as the display is not attached so you can use a bigger or better display. Laptops are not able to do any of that. Yours can use an external displa via its Mini-DVI, but the displays DPI will be limited to what the GPU is able to push. Newer MacBook’s and MacBook Pro’s do have more powerful CPUs. GPUs & better displays you would need to buy a new system to get them.
