I have a 15’“ 2018 MacBook Pro with touch bar that I got from a family member that said it wasn’t turning on at all. It turns out that the logic board was completely fried from a surge but the trackpad and keyboard deck seem to be ok. I don’t have a spare logic board to test them out with, but I’m assuming they work to some capacity. Is there any way that I could use the trackpad or the keyboard as external devices that I could plug in via usb. I know that it’s tricky because Apple uses proprietary pins and those pins provide power along with the data passing through them, but I’m hoping there’s a way I can salvage something from a $2,000 + computer that is effectively useless right now.
I don’t see any way to set it up as an external trackpad or keyboard. They are not designed as direct USB devices. The best thing here is to fix the system!
