Might be a silly question but can I turn the phone on, test the screen, if all is ok then put on the brackets and tighten the screws without powering off the phone?
you can, but i wouldn’t. the biggest risk is a bracket or screw touching and shorting electrical contacts. as a general rule, i always disconnect the battery before doing any work inside, and reconnect it last when i’m done. obviously, the battery shield/bracket cannot be put on until the battery is connected, but it’s the only thing. if you’re careful, you don’t have to power down the phone, but better safe than sorry
