I had to settle for a Silver iPhone 8 Plus on Black Friday; I really wanted the Space Gray, mainly due to the black front panel and home button, but they didn’t have any. I don’t mind the “silver” (more like pearlescent white) back, but I’m having a hard time getting used to the white front. I know I could put a black skin on the front, but there’s still the matter of the home button being white, plus I’m not sure how to use a glass screen protector and a skin at the same time. Is it possible to swap out the white front panel and the white home button/fingerprint scanner for the black versions without having to also replace the LCD itself? If so, how much are the parts, and is it something I could do myself with the right tools (I have no experience repairing cell phones, but I’m good at following directions and know to use basic tools.) Also, where would I go to order the parts? Apple?
You cannot swap out the home button or you will lose touch functionality. The button is married to the phone. Glass-only swaps are technically possible, but extremely tedious and time-consuming. The glass is fused to the LCD screen, so it requires a lot of care and patience to remove without damaging the LCD. I don’t even bother to do glass-only stuff, it’s not worth the time and effort.
essentially yes… however, the procedure is relatively difficult, requiring a variable temperature hot plate, steel Seperating wire, LOCA (Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive, and a large amount of practice. that being said, if you replace the home button, it will stop the touch ID from working without an Apple Certified Store doing the replacement.
You can put a colored glass screen protector of your choice on your iphone , i have a white glass screen protector on my black screen, i only didnt find a colored protector voor the home button.
I have a skin and a screen protector at the same time and yes it looks nice. Also. Using no heat and a pocket knife. I took off the front and back glass. Yes I cut my fingers. It is possible. Yes you can do it. Also I laughed when you asked if Apple sold parts. Steve Jobs made the first iPhone to stay locked in so no ones messes with anything in that case there’s no way they would sell parts you have to order replicas online. Not that they’re bad or anything. Some can be customized. It just takes what I did if you don’t have the big tools.
