I brought my 6 Plus into Apple for a $29 battery replacement. They found that it had some old water damage and told me they couldn’t safely replace the battery and weren’t allowed to do so. Wanted me to buy a new 6 Plus. Can I safely replace the battery myself despite there having been water damage in the past? The phone works just fine other than low battery life. Water damage occurred over 2 years ago.
Yes. You will be fine replacing it. If you see any signs of water damage whilst you are in there then brush it off with an old tooth brush. How I see it is that it’s been working for 2 years so any water damage can’t be that bad. They probably just see the water indicators have changed colour so can’t guarantee any work done, so try to get you to buy a new phone.
