Hi! I broke my macbook pro (model A1502) screen. (slept on it…) . Everything else works fine but a section of my screen is now black around where I cracked it. Apparently the mid 2014 screen part is going to run me about $300-400 to buy and not to mention assembly. I have a friend who has a macbook air (model A1466) that won’t start so he’d give me the screen. Is there any way that I could just swap the two?

Sadly, it won’t work. The MacBook Air system uses LVDS signaling, whereas your MacBook Pro retina uses iDP signaling. Think of it like language one person is speaking Russian and the other English neither is able to understand the other ;-{ The only cheap answer is to use an external display while not very portable you at least can use your system. Otherwise, you’ll need the proper display 13.3 inch LCD Screen Assembly, Apple P/N 661-8153 Sadly the display is hard to find right now due to COVID. Here’s the guide to put it in MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 Display Assembly Replacement
