Im trying to get this Dell Inspiron 1300 working again. The fan is dead and getting a new or used seem hard. So I end up with an idea to take another fan from Lenovo. Cut the edges with a saw and fitted it. They both three cables fans. Just colours differ. After assembling it back I can’t get this fan to work. It spins for a two seconds and stops. Any ideas that might help? Or maybe i’ve just damaged this fan with a saw.
Hi @lost_in_spice , Are the specifications on the replacement fan the same as for the original? According to this link it is a 5V 1.8W fan. The specifications should be marked on the centre of the fan If the specifications are the same then perhaps the sensor in the fan (not sure if it is a rpm sensor or temp sensor) or sensor lead (yellow wire) is faulty There are some fans online. Just search for Dell Inspiron 1300 fan or MD538. Here’s just one
