I’ve recently bought a phone in need of repair, I wasn’t quite sure what repairs were needed but I now know that the U2 IC Chip needs replacing. Is it possible to do this myself? If so, what equipment would I need? Thanks in advance!
You can do it yourself, however if you have never done anything like BGA replacements before then you will cause more problems than what it currently has. Anyway the minimum you need is below.
- Rework gun
- Flux
- Microscope
- Kapton tape
- Micro tweezers
- Solder wick
- Soldering iron If you are reusing another u2 then you also need
- Solder paste
- BGA stencil I would definitely not recommend you do it yourself
