Can I power a thunderbolt 3 computer with a dc power supply by cutting up a thunderbolt 3 cable and attaching it to my dc power supply ? If yes what wires would I attach, and what would I put for the amps with a 65 watt setting?
No! This is just not possible. Think of it this way you want a drink of water you go down to the fire station and grab the firehose and aim it to your mouth and open the valve… Bang you are thrown back to the far wall with a powerful stream of water holding you to the wall. So clearly you got more than you bargained for! A DC power supply is no different it will send the full current it can supply to your system sending it the the wall as well! So clearly thats not the answer as you need a means to control the flow of power which is part of the USB-C Power standard So now you see its not as simple as you had hoped!
