This iPhone 5s had water damage and would not boot. Only showed the apple logo and then shut off again. I did a tear down and cleaned everything with isopropyl alcohol. When reassembled, it was still doing the same thing. I then decided to try restoring in recovery mode (and later went with DFU mode). the phone gets almost done with restore and then crashes. iTunes then gives me the “error 16” message. I read online that these issues could be symptomatic of a faulty logic board. Someone else said it was the baseband processor chip. Any ideas?
Can it be fixed? That depends on what the exact hardware problem is. It is certainly a board defect and you’ll need to replace some components on the board. All of the little small rectangles and connectors on the board are replaceable by most microsoldering shops. For the bga chips it can get more difficult to find someone that is willing to take that on. A good search of the board under a microscope will help to figure out if the board has focal oxidation or generalized/diffuse. I would use that as a guide when trying to figure out how much time to put into a board. jessa
I have the same error 16 and the picture where the update stopped is where mine also stopped. They said it could be a baseband chip problem. :(
