A friend of mine just left me his Ipod video because it stopped working a long time ago. It had already been opened by.. someone ? There doesn’t seem to be any damage to it, apart from one of the tiny copper coils on the logic board, which appears to have been ripped off. These are situated on each side of the charging connector and are marked “KL” on the top. Question is : is there some way for me to put it back in place/resolder it ? Or is it necessary to replace the whole board ? I can post pictures if needed.

well you wont be able to tell if resoldering will fix it until you try to do it. i would say give it a go, and if it doesnt work, then it would need a board replacement. make sure the traces havent been damaged on the board before beginning the repair. if you dont know HOW to Solder SMT components, then you should not be attempting it. this is a special skillset people spend years developing to ensure they dont damage other components.

Thanks for the response. I do lack experience, and equipment, to work on SMD components, but after further inspection it looks to me like these coils are just contact based and not soldered.

I’ll try putting it back with glue.
