I want to use cascade platinum and a dishwasher to clean my apple 2e keyboard. what steps should I take Is this safe? And is so, can I do it with the motherboard?

Bobby Gunnels  no you cannot. There are way to many parts in the keyboard that will be destroyed by the water and chemicals used. The best would be to disassemble the keyboard and clean it with some high-grade isopropyl alcohol. Now when it is disassembled you can clean all the plastic pieces however you want to just make sure that they are dry before disassembly. Same goes for the logic board (motherboard). Stay as far away from using (regular) water as you can. Check on something like this for a good cleaning (restoration)

On the motherboard, I would remove it, use canned air to blow it off well. Then ultrasonic it in a solution of distilled water and Branson cleaner. Sorry I don’t remember how we used to clean the keyboards. But remember, it’s not the water that shoots keyboards out, it’s the contaminates in non-distilled water that allow it to become conductive. Personally I clean my keyboards with a Q-tip dipped in a pure alcohol. I do remember washing older keyboards, but it been a while and if I remember, I’ll chime back in.
