I’m looking to ADD a Samsung V-NAND SSD 860 EVO 2TB drive to my iMac. I’ve read it’s possible to keep the existing 1TB APPLE HDD ST1000DM003 HDD. Does this make sense? The HDD drive seems to be in great shape but I wanted to add the SDD drive?

In this case you really need to use the custom Apple blade SSD which uses a PCIe/NVMe interface not the SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) interface your current HDD drive is using.
