Computers used in cars and trucks are a common fault and repair item. The costs are high and I can’t get any details on what happens to the old units. Some vehicles have more than one to control everything from powertrains to electric window and audio consoles. Can these be repaired?

Hi, Just an idea that you may like to follow up. This website has a really good selection of car service manuals from the manufacturer. Mostly USA makes and models but some are transferable to a degree, to other regions Have noticed in the past that some of the manuals have in their electrical wiring sections or even electronic control modules sections etc (it depends how the manual is laid out) how to check the diagnostics of some modules in the vehicle. This is not to say that they have the schematics of the modules, merely that they tell you what to expect on the outputs of the module when certain functions have been selected Be aware that not all the manuals have this, it’s only that I’ve come across a few over the years when looking for other wiring problems. I don’t think that the manufacturers will ever release the programming for the module as they’ve spent too much on it As an example click on the link above and select Chrysler as the make and Chrysler 300/300C as the model click on the Read Manual for the 2011-2019 service repair manual + owner’s manual and then pass the security check and scroll down and select Electronic Control Modules in the list of the various sections of the manual. You can make it full screen for easier reading or even download to print it at this point You may have to accept (enable?) cookies and pass some security checks along the way, that’s why I can’t link it directly.
