Love my 13” mid 2012 body but I’ve upgraded it as much as possible. Still works great but I can’t find a workaround for the 16gb max ram, which is becoming a problem. I don’t want to do this myself but I need a new macbook pro and hate the keyboard used on the new ones and how lightweight they are. I assume my 2012 body has plenty of room to for the newer components and I don’t need a screen replacement but, if possible, that’d be nice. Can this be done and, if so, does anyone have a recommendation for who I can to do the job? I’d prefer an established business, but a trustworthy individual with solid reputation might work. - Thanks!
I hear you! Take the 2012 unibodies and put in i9 CPU’s with gobs of RAM and storage with the best displays possible. Sadly, as much as I would love such a system its just not in the cards. There is just no way to do it. Apple has finally seen the light with the keyboard going back to the better scissor design (Magic keyboard) from the crappy butterfly in the new 16” model. I too was hoping to have seen a newer 13” (14”) by now with the Magic keyboard it’s still MIA. Intel is still struggling with their CPU’s, they are still running hot. With the still thinner bodies they tend to be toasty on the lap. While the newer 16” model has better cooling its still not at the needed level to be really effective given the Intel CPU Apple wants to use. I do think we will see something break here really soon! There are strong hints Apple is about to jump to AMD Zen2 Ryzen CPU’s. They have the performance and run cooler! In any case USB-A ports have been supplanted by USB-C, I do wish Apple would rethink things here as while Thunderbolt/USB-C is nice to have, I still don’t see the call to not offering at least one USB-A and Ethernet ports. WiFi is still not as fast at a wired Ethernet connection and have you found a USB-C wired keyboard? They don’t exist! So now I need a dam dongle just so I can have a wired keyboard and mouse?
