All - About 16 months ago, I rehabbed my son’s Macbook Pro. I upped the ram, put a SSD in and installed a new battery. And then it sat, more or less untouched, for 16 months. Since he’s not using it I decided to clean up the drive and use it myself, but when I try to power up, nothing happens - most of the time. Once in a while, disconnecting the power cord causes the boot chimes to sound and it looks like the machine powers on briefly before dying again. In any event, the screen never lights up. I’ve reset the PRAM and the power management system, tried booting it with the power cable attached and without. My question is: if the battery is stone cold dead, could it cause the machine to not turn on, let alone boot, even with power going to it? I’m trying to figure out whether to invest in another battery. Thanks, Scott A. btw - The machine hasn’t gotten wet or too cold or too hot, or been otherwise mistreated.

While I can’t say for certain, I think you’re hitting a battery issue just the same. LiOn Batts are a bit finicky when store them for long periods. So you put a new battery in you charged it up and then dropped into the drawer for 16 months. If you had made sure the battery was around hallway charged your outcome would have been better! Now with that said something else could have needed repairs too that you missed. But I think you just need to deal with the easy stuff first. Order a new battery and see if that does it, if not let us know!
