Chosen Solution
I was doing a battery replacement and everything works fine except it has a large grey (now black) bar at the top. I tried to be as careful as possible. I unplugged the screen and insert it and it still is like that. Is the screen or some connector broken? Or could it be a battery issue? Should I use some rubbing alcohol on the connectors to see if I can clean it? What else can I do to test? Thanks

Make sure the battery is disconnected before you disconnect the screen. It sounds like a bad connection. Get a magnifying glass and make sure none of the pins are bent or damaged. Clean to connections with a qtip and alcohol and a soft brush.
