I curious to wether the screen is burnt out, or if this is fixable without having to see Apple to look at it.

Ouch! Did you bang the edge of your lid (bottom left or right). It looks like the horizontal signal paths got damaged (TAB error) this is where the signal connection is lost across the rows that are not showing up. This will require a new display assembly. I hope you’re sitting down its about $600 US just for the part! While it’s not difficult to replace, Apple maybe ID’ing the displays ID string so unless you get a real Apple display you might encounter a problem. I can tell you if you get a second Mac system you can swap the displays around, I’ve done that. One person here tried a Chinese unit and it wouldn’t work.
