Both of the USB C ports on my laptop no longer have a solid connection when I plug in my charger. The charger used to have a “click” when I plugged it in, and now it doesn’t do that and the cable seems loose. I can’t get a steady charge from the cable on either port. I’ve tried multiple laptop USB C chargers, so it’s not the cable. Are the ports repairable?
Hi @nachokingp , Both the USB-C ports are hard mounted on the systemboard, so you will need smd soldering skills and tools to replace them. Visually inspect the ports, using a strong light and a magnifying glass to check if you can spot a problem either with the pins or the port enclosure. If there appears to be dust or lint etc in the enclosure, that may be preventing a good electrical connection, do not use a metal pin or probe to try and extract it, use a vacuum cleaner instead to try and suck it out. Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.46 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the systemboard as this will need to be done to replace the connectors. If doing all this seems too daunting, contact a reputable. professional laptop repair service and ask for a quote.
