About a week ago both my left and right speakers started crackling. It came on fairly suddenly. Googling suggests that this is a software issue but all the software fixes have not worked. Apple Support wants me to have it serviced. Hardware diagnostics passed with flying colors. Output from the headphone jack is fine. It looks like the speaker assemblies are separate parts, so I don’t need a logic board. Total cost is a bit over $50. And yes, I’m comfortable opening it up. Has anyone had this and had it get fixed? Or even stay broken? Thanks!
Apple had a few OS releases which in fact did damage the speakers! Between the DAC logic sending a sizable pop signal when you started to use your system to over driving them. Apple did offer a free repair back when it was first discovered. Not sure if you have that option now. Anyway… The speakers in this series have had there issues, sadly ;-{ Here’s the needed parts: 15” MacBook Pro Touch Bar Mid 2017 Speakers They are held in by adhesive so you’ll need to drip a little isopropyl alcohol along the edge.
