My Whirlpool model GSF6C4XY03 side by side The Freezer started defrost then stay warm, then the Fridge stay warm after that. I unplug it then plug it on back around 4pm, both Freezer and fridge start working back, ice is made. I leave it stay overnight and in the next morning, I saw ice is melted, both stay warm again, not cold at all. I have done twice and the issue is the same. Air is still flown from air duct which stay upper top inside freezer but the air is not cold like usual. I replace relay, capacitor, clean the coil at the bottom and behind the refrigerator but the issue isn’t fixed. Temperature is set up at standard : freezer 0F, fridge 37F. p/s: a few months before, ice maker stop making ice for a day and start make ice again. Can someone give me the instruction to fix it. Thank you.
It could be a problem with the defrost thermostat. The defrost cycle is a timed event in your case 30 minutes. If all the ice is melted off the evaporator coils then the thermostat should open killing the heater. The thermostat opens just above freezing. So if it does not too much heat will be added to the freezer. If it is deformed/bulged replace it even if it measures OK. Defrost Thermostat The defrost thermostat monitors the temperature of the evaporator coils. When the coils drop below a set temperature, the thermostat contacts close to allow power to flow to the defrost heater during the defrost cycle. In the defrost cycle, the defrost heater melts away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost thermostat is defective, the thermostat contacts will not close. As a result, the thermostat won’t provide power to the defrost heater. To determine if the defrost thermostat is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the defrost thermostat does not have continuity when it reaches the low temperature of its operating range, replace it. Here’s your part: https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/…
