I’m trying to fix this controller that had stick drift in both analogs, so i replaced both analogs, took my time soldering, it was my first time but comparing it to others i didn’t think i did too bad! until i ran it through the computer and both analog sticks are pulling down ever so slightly? Are they faulty analog stick replacements or did i do something wrong?
This is a common one, both with dualshock and xbox controllers. My guess is that when soldering, some connections maybe slightly ‘‘thicker’’ than others, causing small differences in resistance through that part of the circuit, which translates to the analog drifting on a particular direction. Most controlers face this problem after a while (1,5-2-3 years, depending on usage). During this time, connections might be affected by temperature, vibration and force of the fingers, leading to an issue that is, admitedly, hard to fix. Only luck I ever had with this was as a child on my original xbox, when forcing my analog to one direction for a second used to temperarily fix it. But since i don’t have eagle eyes to do the exact proper soldering, i would normaly replace my controler after its 2nd year of life.
