I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro that I had removed the hard drive from. I had an old hard drive from my girlfriends older (2008) MacBook Pro that had Leopard installed. When I put it in the 2009 and booted while holding “option”, the drive was recognized but after clicking on it the computer froze and will not do anything.
It sounds like you need to reformat & install a fresh copy of OS onto it. Depending on how the OS was installed originally and updated you could be missing a few drivers this system needs for this system.
