My macbook pro 16" powers on into a blank screen. I can adjust the brightness but no apple logo. It can output to external display. Sound, keyboard and touchbar are also working fine. What could be the issue here? Do I need a new lcd display or a new logic board?

Place a flashlight against the screen at a sharp angle, do you see a faint image of your desktop and its icons? If you do then the issue is within the backlight circuit. That could be within the logic board or the cables which connects the logic board to the LCD panel in the lid. Did you damage the chin plate which sits below the display or bang the black clutch cover so its dented or damaged? If you don’t see an image then the display it’s self is damaged and will need to be replaced.
