Chosen Solution

Greetings iFixit community, It’s my first time here - although not for a good reason. My 1 year 7 months old Macbook pro just died on me today morning. I remember leaving it on my desk with 7% charge on it and when I woke up I couldn’t turn it on. I can only power it on and off (which I found out since trackpad works only when the system is on) As I stated, these are the observations: No displayNo keyboard lightsNo soundTrackpad is responsive (it only registers click when the machine is powering on) Here’s what I’ve tried so far: Reset SMC multiple timesReset NVRAM multiple timesCountless reboots with power supply plugged in and plugged out. I’m honestly lost as I’m a student and this is my go-to system. Since due to the pandemic, I can’t venture out and check out any Apple-repair site (although I would like that to be my last option). Thank you all in advance!

Can you give us a bit more on the systems history: Have you had a liquid spill or sat the system down on a wet surface?Have you dropped your system?Do you run your system hard?Do you mostly leave the system on the charger? Have you had your system serviced by Apple getting the outstanding extended warranty repairs done? You could try to live the power connected overnight and at the morning, after the SMC and PRAM resets see what’s happening. If it is nothing - then the battery most probably needs to be replaced. Perhaps even in your country it could be replaced free of charge by the authorized Apple Service Center. There is no harm in asking them about your options, right? You can also replace the A1713 battery by yourself. It could be sourced from e-bay, for example, and the replacement guide is available here on iFixit. I prefer using the heat-gun though, but it is totally doable if you out of Apple’s coverage.
