I have macbook pro 15 touch bar 2017 with black screen problem. Still working on external monitor. It happened like 6 months ago. At first I don’t know what to do until I realise that I can make the screen works again by keep restarting the mac or sleep & un-sleep for few hours (it’s tiring). If the screen goes normal, it can work as long as I didn’t turn shutting down the mac for 4-6 hours. Still working If I just shut it down for 1-3 hours. Someday I keep my mac turned on for 4 days straight and then I shut it down. Next day suddenly the screen turn normally without need to keep restart it and the problem seem fixed for around 5 months. (I was really happy) Few days ago the problem comes again, keep restarting or sleep & un-sleep still fix it. But I tried to keep my mac turned on for 4 days again but the next day the problem still exits. So my question is, what is really happened to my screen ?

Let’s do a simple test, the next time the screen goes black take a flashlight held on the screen at an angle you should see the faint image of your desktop and its icons, do you? If you do they you’ve proved the issue is within your backlight logic on your logic board. You’ll need to get your system to someone with the deeper skills to fix your logic board. Update (11/08/2020) @billyadelphia - Well thats a bit better! Your issue is then limited to the display assembly! You’ll need to replace it to fix your problem MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2017 Screen Replacement Due to COVID parts are hard to get into there states from China and costly!
