Chosen Solution

Hello, Been trying to find info on this model for quite some time, but nobody seems to be able to. This is a Sony DHR-1000VC. It (used to) play(s) DV and MiniDV tapes.

This is the mechanics of it

And this is the picture it gives me now for quite some time.

I found more of those problems over the net, and these appear to be gray lines. or lines in which there still is somewhat picture to be seen. My device shows steady black lines, and in between the lines the picture is crispy clear. Also sound hardly does a thing. Below also a video of the issue:

Now, Would i be searching this in a defective video head (since i’ve been cleaning this a gazillion times. Sometimes there’s no picture when using an older tape. After cleaning, i get back to this picture) Or should i have to look in a malfunctioning video board? If someone can point me in the right direction, would be a great help :-)

@bungieke does not look like a tape head issue. The lines are to thick and to symmetric. I found that with a bad tape head you get plenty of thin lines but not as symmetric as yours. I’d be taking a closer look at the JC13 board. That is the board that is amongst many other things, responsible for the DV in/out as well as the audio core. The JC13 is printed on the corner of the board. Take a close look at the caps on those boards. check for domed or leaking caps. Post some images of what you find with your question. That way we can see what you see.

Sorry for the late answer. Bit strange how i have to choose “add your answer” in order to upload a picture aswell. Then it says i’m answering my own question, but i see no other option to upload a picture

Only see 5 capacitors on this JC13 board. Nothing leaky to see there. Since i don’t know any values to measure on those with oscilliscope, I’ll replace all 3 of them..

Could it also be one of those capacitors on this lower board? Replacing caps on the JC13 board doesn’t solve the problem :-(
