Hello so i have a problem with my Asus FX505DU the bottom part of the display is flickering and with time it becomes completly black. I changed the display cable and i still have the same issue. What i found out is , when i place the laptop outside in cold like in the evenings , the black bar appears and doesn’t go away , when i place the laptop in direct sunlight the bar instantly dissapears. Another curious thing is that if i open mspaint and it’s just a entire white screen the bar starts to flicker and slowly dissapears , when i have a complete black screen it re-appears. The cable is exactly like the original one and i made sure when i replaced it that it made perfect contact . What magic can cause this ? it’s driving me crazy and the bar grew over time it went from just covering the taskbar to almost half of my screen. Please help Edit: here is the link https://youtu.be/BDQ71uH4D80 If i place my finger in that position or any source of heat to that exact spot it starts working , see in the video . Edit 2: Another Video with the issue , when placing dark color images around that area the problem appears , if there is complete white image there are no black bars or flickering. https://youtu.be/p_-eldjlP8c i must mention it was never dropped and i have only opened the laptop case when i wanted to replace the cable and the problem was 3 months old at that point
@drachmus we really would need to see what this all looks like. Going by your description this sounds like a failing driver board for your screen. At this point you may need to replace it Of course verify that this is isolated to your display and not the GPU by connecting an external monitor. If that shows normal the issue is most likely your screen. Adding images to an existing question
Only solution i found was to put some object behind the display where the GPU / CPU vents are to redirect the heat to the area of the display that is affected. The heat expands whatever happened inside and restores the connection , no more black bars , but as soon as the laptop gets cold again ( not under load) the bars appear again. The laptop was never dropped or had encountered any external force on the display or case so i don’t know how this issue occured. But there are so many people on reddit and the internet that have the same problem i guess it’s just the low quality of the display. In the end i ordered a Panda display , same as the original one in this laptop 120hz 40 pin Part number provided by asus customer support based on my laptop serial number is : 18010-15671000 I tried to find this exact model but it was really hard to find , every seller just gives you a random brand , boe , innolux .etc and you cant specifically ask for one , same on amazon. Only option was alibaba and sites like that but i ended up contacting Asus customer support regarding this issue and they recommended zandparts, they sell the original display but i will see what arrives. And as soon as the display arrives i will leave an update here. Even though they have low trustpilot rating , my experience with them was alright (i ordered a display 40 pin edp cable before) and they gave me the original part , they reply pretty fast on customer support emails or their direct chat and the product arrived pretty quick even though they only offer “standard” shipping . I told them it has to arrive by “N” date because i was leaving the country and they delivered. Original Display code and the 40 pin EDP cable code are in the pictures.
