Hi, my spacebar stopped working last week because of the white butterfly mechanism, so I bought a new one and proceeded to replace it, everything works fine, but I can’t seem to glue these transparent parts back on properly, my double sided tape is just too weak and keeps coming off after a few minutes of use. Do you have any recommendations on glue or thin double sided tape I could use?
we dont know of any double sided tape that is strong enough to hold these into place. We use different glues depending on how damaged it is. because of the original way the mounts are fitted, with plastic lugs that press through the keyboard frame, the only way we have found we can get the alignment perfect is if we keep the majority of the plastic pegs in place. If they are even slightly misaligned, the key will not click properly, so alignment is paramount. We use either Diall ‘Glue for Plastics’ or a dab of super glue to adhere it, ensuring to only put glue on the outer edges by the original pegs and not to near the butterfly clip mounts, or the metal spring dome in the middle. I hope this helps.
Just so you know Apple has a free repair program to fix any keyboard issues with the new butterfly keyboards How to Get a MacBook or MacBook Pro Keyboard Repaired Free Under Apple’s Service Program I’m not sure what glue Apple is using as the plastic is polyester which is hard to glue. Tesa tape might work Tesa 61395 Tape
Could someone make a post teaching how to do this entire thing ? I just broke those transparent parts and already bought a few from ali-express. It’s either this or paying $300. Thanks.
I used locate super glue. But be sure to remove any glue remains before you apply it, makes a major difference.
Please pay attention that the “transparent part” has an orientation and should not be reassembled with a 180° rotation (on the keys where that is possible). Working on the “enter” key (US Layout) I found that with wrong orientation the key will still work but making contact much less often and with more strength only.
