HP ProBook 430 G2 My laptop is only getting on when I plug the charger in. Battery shows cross. When I tried new battery in it then too it was only getting on after charger plug in which is strange. After that too new battery stuck at 30% and when I ran the diagnostic it shows you need to change the battery. I don’t know if its a battery issue, adaptor issue or something else. Help!
Assuming a Windows OS A laptop will run on the adapter alone. You should fully charge a new battery with the computer off. A full charge will be indicated by the battery charge LED turning off. A new battery could be defective if it does not get to that point in a defined time. With a battery inserted, the adapter needs to put out more power to run laptop and charge battery at the same time. An adapter could be defective if it cannot supply the stated power output. It is harder to measure, but is seldom a failure. Either it works or it does not. So, the issue is most likely a battery, or internal circuitry of the laptop. With battery plugged in and computer running, rt click the start button and select either Command Prompt, Windows Powershell or type cmd and click on the top entry in the window. That will open a window. type powercfg /batteryreport That will produce a detailed report and tell you where it saved it. Open that up to see if the new battery is showing a charge level and design level almost equal. You can compare it to another report for the old battery which should be showing very different numbers
