Hi, I’m currently working on a 13” MacBook Pro, Early 2015. Customer come in after trying to power on their MacBook that had been sitting in a drawer for 6 months idle. MacBook was working fine before then. First of all I tried to start the laptop to see if I could somehow get the original battery to get any charge. The power adapter shows no lights (Orange or Green) After no luck, I ordered a replacement battery and successfully installed it. Booted the MacBook and the battery had 70% already, I charged it fully to 100% (still no lights on the power adapter - I was led to believe maybe the adapters LED was faulty, as it charged fine) I then took the MacBook off charge and drained it down to 13%, then plugged it back in, it recognizes the MagSafe is connected, but says “battery not charging” and stays at 13%. Tried SMC reset etc. I’ve purchased a second battery thinking it could’ve been a faulty battery, but I’m still getting the same issue. I’ve plugged the power adapter into a different MacBook, and the LED indicator does work and charges fine. Would my next best bet be to replace the MagSafe connector?
I would inspect the MagSafe contacts to make sure they are clean and the plastic surfaces are not loaded with junk. Here’s a sample of what I’ve encountered. Burnt contact:
Junk built up:
The remnants of a knockoff charger and the burnt pins it caused:
Beyond this the logic boards charging circuit could be damaged from a knockoff charger. That will require someone with deeper skills to fix (micro-soldering tools and skills as well as access to the small SMD components)
