I’ve had to fix a laptop that required a hdd cable to be replaced. Fixed that and now I’ve realised that it doesn’t work unless plugged into the power adapter. When plugged into the power adapter the laptop works fine but the battery indicator flashes 5 times. If I disconnect the power it turns off immediately. The battery details under the system profiler say the battery needs replacing but it’s charge remaining is 4050 mAh and it is stuck at 94% charged. If I disconnect the battery it operates the same however of course the battery doesn’t come up under the system profiler. Is it just the battery that has failed and a replacement one will fix it or is it possible that there are other problems with the device and not worth the repair?

If the system works without the battery then its clear you need a new battery! MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Battery that should do it.
