I recently replaced my iPhone 5s digitizer/screen and everything works fine but now it seems like the battery drains almost 2x as fast as it did before the screen was changed. I can’t figure out what exactly could be wrong and reopened the phone to see if there as anything loose or disconnected but everything looks fine and functions correctly.
So after much significant frustration I found that software issues were to blame surrounding the iOS 7.1 release that occurred around the time of my screen replacement. It wasn’t a short in the hardware it ended up being processes running constantly. Under settings my usage and standby were almost identical times. No typical fix helped because the corruption was in my backup as well. I only fixed it after a factory restore and setting it up as a new phone. But the upside is the screen is fine and was not the cause of the battery drain.
Paul it sounds like you may have a short with the battery somewhere. You should open your phone back up and inspect to make sure all connections are good and make sure there isn’t a short somewhere or possibly an area touching. If you find out anything else please let us know and we will assist as soon as possible ~Gadget~
Check that the brightness didn’t get turned up.
Haven’t resolved the issue as of yet. But I do agree that some sort of short is very likely. Especially with all the other typical battery drain issues having been tested(brightness, bluetooth, background app refresh, Etc… Not convinced it isn’t the replacement screen though. If there was a minor short in the cabling it could still cause current drain even if the battery cables are fine. Parasitic drain could likely come from many parts of the phone if there was a short within a given component.
Feel for heat on the board—this may help localize a short.
i had my 5s screen replaced 2 days ago because it shattered and now the battery drains 2-3x faster than before…is it a short?
Hi, I dropped my phone in water but quickly took it apart and dried it and it is working almost perfectly now except I have the same problem. I even replaced the battery but even with the new one it won’t hold a charge. I didn’t replace any other parts. I’m still looking for a solution as well.
Had my screen replaced last week and also have 2 x battery drain

My iphone 5c stopped charging and booting after using an cheap lightning cable, to which i got the battery replaced. Now it works and charges without any problem but it’s getting hot at the rear side on the right next to the sim tray and the battery is continuously draining even after replacement of two batteries. What should i do?
Paul Jerome to resolve the problem we just do a software upgrade? I have the same problem
Iphone 5s.Have the same issue after battery replacement, find a temporary solution. when Disconnected Home button flex cable from logic board, battery drain stopped. Tried many different home buttons but when connected battery draind started again. Couldn’t find different solution. Any idea what the problem is?
I replaced a screen on a 5c and then had the same “heating” issue and battery drain. I suspected it was a short somewhere, so I dismantled the iPhone again. On doing so I noticed that the three connectors on the new LCD didn’t have the small foam pads on them as per the original LCD. So I transferred the foam pads from the original screen onto the new one and re-assembled. The iPhone is now fine. I assume the foam pads are some sort of spacer to prevent the three connectors from touching.
I had my screen replaced today, iPhone 4 (yes, it is old) but now the battery is draining really fast. Is there any way the company that I paid to replace the broken screen went behind my back and did a battery swap for my good battery? And how can I check to see if the battery in my phone is the same battery from when I bought it?
Check for loose metal that might be causing a short somewhere! I was having the same issue after replacing the screen on my iPhone 5c for the second time. Hot phone, quick battery drain, plus a sometimes erratic touchscreen. Turns out the screw anchor for the bottom left plate that goes over the three points where the lcd connects to the phone had broken loose, and was making contact with the surrounding area - which is where my phone was getting hot. I removed the loose piece, put the everything back together, and everything went back to normal! Update: Here’s a picture showing which screw base snapped off:
Fixing the loose bit DID solve the erratic screen behavior, but my battery still drains pretty fast, even after replacing the battery. So that didn’t actually fix it. Sorry all. No luck yet :*(
My iphone 5s after display changing battery was drain 2x times what can i do pls help me
Had my screen replaced on my 5s due to cracked screen. 24hrs later I update to the new iOS, it turns off and never turns back on! Started getting really hot so I thought I’d replace the battery. Still no life but still gets really hot when the power button has been held down. Thinking of replacing the screen again. Didn’t notice anything unusual when I changed the battery, ie lose screws, etc.
I know nothing about electronics really but am having the same problem. Could it be the digitizer? Mine gets hot and the battery drains fast. When I replaced the screen I also replaced the digitizer as well. It looked easier and my son did it for me.
I had a screen and battery replaced on a iPhone 6, and straight after heat issues and battery drain even on flight mode and simple apps were killing the battery as well, I opened the phone and saw that the new screen connectors has no pads, even on the battery as I changed battery too, the guy from the shop(u.k.junction8 on m20 services) even forgot to put back the bracket with 5 screws which is covering the three connectors. Thanks for my moms water damaged phone was in the draw, I could reuse the bracket and the foam pads, which they are hard to take them off without destroying them. The seller even destroyed the home button gasket by removing it the worst way, without hearing it up, my home button was clumsy as !&&*! How many people had this issue and went mad? How many phone shop neglected this thing and gave back phones with battery drains to their customers? I haven’t really seen any solution in the internet that’s why I am greatfull to find this useful solution on ifixit!
Hi had this issue the other day when fixing my sons phone, the phone battery worked perfectly fine with the old screen and when I replaced the cracked screen with a non Apple screen the battery drained significantly faster and in some cases went from 100% to 40 % in mins , the problem I believe is the contact points connecting to the digitalizer on the lesser quality screens , this in turn doesn’t agree with the most likely older Apple battery which are known for there poor performance, in my sons iPhone 5s, the battery had swollen from the replacement of the new digitalizer screen, which in turn was pressing against the new screen, causing the short of the battery, lesson I’ve learned is if the phone is older then replacement of the battery is also needed when the screen is broken, phone works brand new now and it had nothing to do with bits of shielding foam like I was reading on the internet not covering vital parts lol, battery and screen hand in hand if you want to fix this issue and save yourself 3 days of trying to figure it out like me haha
Also relevant: could be a damaged pin on front camera connector.
