The battery indicator turns red when the charge is 15% sometimes it does not turn red when the charge is 5% .Why it is not consistent?. The best way is to track your usage and the battery condition within Activity Monitor and using this app CoconutBattery. Unlike other MacBook Pro’s you don’t have a visual charging LED so its hard to know what the charger is really doing. I would recommend getting a USB-C power meter which you place between the cable and your system Satechi USB-C Power Meter Tester Some of the issues I’ve seen is a bad cable and/or wrong cable. Many USB-C cables are not designed to offer the larger gage wires needed to power/recharge the battery. So you do need to be careful! I strongly recommend you stick with the cable that came with your Apple USB-C charger. Even still over time the cable does breakdown or become damaged, make sure you get a power cable Vs a data cable.
