Hi There. I have quite an old MacBook Pro from 2009 that has worked pretty reliable since then. Yesterday (without hitting it or bumping it into anything) a blueish-gray bar (2.2cm or .9 in approx) appeared in the bottom of the screen and it won’t go away. The bar seems to slowly change into straight vertical lines of the colours that are touching its border. It doesn’t appear in screenshots. Thanks! https://scontent.fmex3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v…
Can you hook it up to an external display? If it appears on the external , it is a GPU issue (which I do not believe it is. This looks to me like a display board failure. Apple has not made a 17" for a while and you machine is still in demand and has value. Here is the complete display assembly, MacBook Pro 17" Unibody (Early-Mid 2009) Display Assembly This is what you need to search for: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Display-Screen-… See the board at the bottom of the LED? That is what I believe has failed.
