Hi! My MacBook’s display suddenly stopped working, with only the backlight turning on. I tried the flashlight trick, but still didn’t have any other type of display on the screen. I also attempted to hook it up to an external monitor, but that too only had a blank display. I took it to the Apple store and they said it was an issue with the logic board (no surprise there!) and that a fix would cost at least $800. Is there any alternative option to this at all? I am thoroughly comfortable with opening this computer up and fixing the logic board myself without having to replace every part for a single part repair, but with Apple’s decision to basically make the logic board one huge chunk, I don’t really know where to begin. I’m in college and I can’t really afford to buy a whole new computer at the moment

Sorry to say you’re between a rock and a hard place here ;-{ There is nothing you really can do to fix your system your self. You really need to find someone with micro-soldering skills and access to the schematics and parts to fix your logic board. Depending on whats wrong it might still end up costing a bit.
