I have this problem since a while now. Since yesterday i can’t open my Macbook pro more than 45 degrees. The light starts to “fade” away and i can’t use it anymore. Tried resetting SMC NVRAM and reinstalling macOS. The Display istn’t completely black it’s just very dark. I can see the screen with a flashlight. Sorry to say you have a bad display cable. There is a cable from the display which connects to the logic board which supplies power to backlight LED’s. You’ll need to bring it into an Apple Store or ship it to Apple to get repaired. You will be the 15th person I know of that has encountered this issue. Apple was covering it under an extended warranty, I hope they still are. You’ll need a new display assembly as you can’t replace the cable.
