After spilling water on my laptop everything works except for the screen. I can work around this my connecting it to an external monitor, but I was hoping to be able to find and fix the source of the problem. Does anyone know where I can find the backlight fuse, or if there are any other faulty components that could be the culprit?
In our experience the backlight fuse is rarely the issue on the model, you will want to follow the following protocol. Thorough Diagnostic – Any MacBook that is exposed to liquid requires a thorough inspection, even a small amount of corrosion untreated can cause a system failure further down the road. Inspect Keyboard and Track Pad for ANY corrosion or sticky residue – If found a keyboard or track pad replacement is recommended. Inspect Main LogicBord for any sign of liquid exposure. This should be done with a high powered stereo microscope, each SMD component should be checked for any signs of damage. Here is a video of what to expect when repairing the backlight circuit
All display connections and wiring should be throughly inspected, any sign of liquid exposure and the display replacement recommended. Data Integrity – Data integrity should be checked and re checked. In the vast majority of cases data is not effected. If corrosion is present on SSD or HD replacement is recommended. Stop powering the unit on, electricity is the catalyst and accelerates the corrosion process. If your Mac is still on, power down the unit down immediately and remove any power source. Remove logic board and post pictures, as close as you can while still giving perspective, then we can move on to the next step.
Stop turning it on right now. Thre is corrosion on that board. Take it out and clean the board with 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. Clean everything on the board, especially near the battery (at the bottom) and near and inside the LCD connector.
