Chosen Solution

I recently changed the screen on my iPhone 5, and now the Auto-brightness toggle is completely missing. I can change brightness at will, and there are no other odd behaviors. I have tried reinstalling the screen, swapping out my old camera/sensor assembly and the new one, but that doesn’t seem to have any effect.

After replacing the display (full assembly) on a 5s, I had a situation where the toggle was gone and there was no auto adjustment happening when I changed lighting conditions. I determined this was a hardware failure (specifically the ambient light sensor) and got a new display assembly (including the ambient light sensor). Then, the toggle was still missing, but it was actually auto adjusting the brightness, showing that it actually was working. To fix this, I did a factory reset and restored (from iCloud backup in my case). The toggle came back, and all with that was fine.

Did you ever find out why this happens? I could not get the auto brightness even with a display swap after a restore with the new and working display. Is this a logic board failure?

Nope- It appears that the functionality is gone now. I have nothing to offer but speculation.

I am also facing the same problem in my iphone 5. Some body to help us, please.

In my case the logic board had failed since the display replacement did not work despite a hard reset.

I have this happening on a 5c. Tried numerous hard resets. Light sensor is fine. However if I search the settings it’s shown, just can’t access it.

I also have the same problem on my iPhone 5. Apple please fix this

Some problem, iPhone 5. Toggle missing, but auto-brightness works.

Try these.

  1. “erase all content and settings”. It’s the second option on reset menu in your iPhone.
  2. restore it from iTunes. connect your iphone to your pc or mac, open iTunes and you will see restore option. Ps. in above both cases. You will lose all your data. So make sure you have backed up your data if is important.

I’m sorry if this was already mentioned (I haven’t read all the replies)?? I searched my settings and it showed the file path for the auto-brightness and they moved the “on/off” button!! It’s under Settings/General/Accessibility/Display Accommodations. Hope this helps??

my button also missing on my iphone 5s, had screen replaced and now there is no button, just the text where the button should be… really dont want to have to set up phone again, I just have it how I want it.

i olnly change my iphone 5s battery and now auto brightness toggle is missing and auto brightness not working
