Chosen Solution

Hello. Just received my new Aura 1T SSD and also my ext need enclosure to put in my old ssd. Wanting to clone my old HD first I plugged in the new 1T ssd in the enclosure so I could use Disk Utility to clone my old HD and then just swap HD in the Macbook. Unfortunately Disk Utility does not see the 1T Aura. I am running on Catalina 10.15.7 Thanks for any help

The first, and obvious, possibility is that the SSD you bought is defective. But you may instead have a bad enclosure, because it has the circuitry to convert the SSD’s SATA connector to a USB 3 (or maybe USB 2) jack connection. If you have a good drive to try in the enclosure then you could find out if the enclosure is good. I personally have bought one or two similar enclosures that turned out to be defective. If you are confident that the enclosure is good then the best idea would be to see what happens with the new SSD in the enclosure but connected up to a PC running Windows or linux, if you have one or know someone with them. Macs do seem to occasionally to be fussy when dealing with some types of hardware.
