Using a car charger, my 32 GB iPhone did not charge, but actually started to go down in battery life. Then I started to smell a burning electronic smell and when I looked down, the apple logo came up and the screen flickered and went black. I tried a regular iPod charger (plugged into the wall), plugged into my laptop - nothing. The Mac store said it was fried and no repair could remedy my situation. Are there any ways to fix it or at least get my photos, contacts, ect?
Your data may be fine. Frankly I’d take it to a professional that has the adapter to connect it for data recovery. Offer him/her the old unit for parts as payment. Otherwise you will be buying things for a one shot deal which may or may not work..
Adriana, sorry to hear about your iPhone. Has anybody made determination which part was fried? My first question would be when the last time was that you backed up your phone. If it was recent before your phone “melted” most of your data would be contained in the back up and you could get it through a restore of another iphone3gs. There are very few forensic software that allow you to access the flash memory of your phone. One of them you can download as a demo and see if it will access your flash memory http://www.oxygen-forensic.com/en/ it also offers a unique opportunity to load data from iPhone backup files. Once expert loads backup into the software it gives an access to stored data, including contacts, calendar events, messages, files etc.You can also use built-in iPhone Password Breaker to unlock backup files made with iTunes. You could try to call Sherlock Data Recovery Services 500A E 87th St Ste 4G (at York Ave) New York, NY 10128 Neighborhoods: Upper East Side, Yorkville (866) 227-9186 www.sherlockdatarecovery.com they do logical data recovery or Wiredirepair1720 NW Lovejoy #116,Portland, Oregon 503-317-9977 http://www.wiredirepair.com/ Good luck and let us know how it is going. Adriana, I just dug a little deeper. Here is a way of recovering your backup (HOPE YOU DID BACK IT UP) just make sure that you copy all those files before you access them. Don’t want to mess with the originals until you know what you get yourself into :) good luck. http://geekyninja.com/archives/how-to-re…
To everyone - much thanks! I have talked with a repair company (actually 3) that has said it’s most likely going to be one of two things: either a fried battery terminal (which can be fixed to work once again), or second (worst option) is that the main board circuitry is fried and then I’ve got an expensive paperweight… Unless I want to pay for that to be replaced and if that’s what it came to, I’d just say no and sell it for parts. As for my lost info-I tried to restore to a backup from last week and had an evil iTunes error message come up. After some forum research I found that I had to save that backup file, delete and then reinstall iTunes, in which case I finally got it to sync. I didn’t lose that much data after all, just a couple days worth. Thanks again!
@oldturkey… The program you mention http://www.oxygen-forensic.com/en/ Will this program be able to access the iPhone through its connected Apple USB cable without the iPhone pysically being turned on ?? Wondering if the power supplied via the USB connection would be enough.. The reason I ask, is that I am at an early stage of having a water damaged 3G 16GB iPhone. Many thanks in advance for your time in sharing your insight. Martin.
I know that this is an old conversation but ill try anyway. i have an iphone 4s that was dropped and it completely stopped working. it wasnt backed up and the charge port isnt messed up nor the screen. i took it to someone and they told me that my motherboard was fried. is there any way at all that i can recover data off of the motherboard? i know that its an insane question but it must be asked. @oldturkey03 do you have any ideas? thank you
