I am in process of trying to move. I have an oldish luxor 401080. Lcd tv. When relocating I was fitting aerial cable which seemed very snug. As I got the socket home and in place, there was a weird popping sound. Turned tv on and only have black screen, WITH sound operating normally. Suggested backlight failure. Is this worth trying to find a resolve, as it makes me cringe to think of throwing it, if indeed it’s repairable. Thanks!

Hi @bobbycobb, Can you view the menu screens OK? If not with the TV on with audio, shine a torch at an angle close to the screen and check if you can detect any images at all on the screen. They will be very faint if they are there, so trying this in a darkened room may help. If there are images then it is a backlight problem but given what you said happened I don’t think that it will be the backlights themselves. More likely it will be on the power board or the mainboard. I don’t know your model and there is little information out there about it but with some TVs the power for the backlights comes via the mainboard and not directly from the power board. You may have to locate the power supply leads to the backlights and see which board that they connect to. You may have to disconnect the power to the TV and then remove the back cover from the TV and inspect the boards for any obvious damage e.g. blown or bulging capacitors and burnt or heat stressed other components. Also perhaps look for any “splash” burn marks on the frame near the board as pushing the antenna lead in may have caused the board to bend and touch something which normally it wouldn’t do. I assume from your description of what happened that the power was connected to the TV when you plugged in the cable, is this correct? If you spot something or you’re not quite sure, post some close up images back here. Here’s how to do this on iFixit Adding images to an existing question
